Facts

  • First building in Jerusalem to be electrically lit.
  • One of the first buildings to be built outside the Old City Walls, during the 1880s.
  • This is the largest French establishment in the country.
  • A large statue of the Madonna is situated on the central part of the roof between two turrets.
  • Built by the French in order to accommodate and support the increasing numbers of French pilgrims to the city at the end of the 19th century.
