Facts

  • Kansas City was competing with Charlotte, Daytona Beach, Richmond, and Atlanta for the Hall of Fame.
  • The cost of the proposed facility was estimated in excess of $100 million. The most glitzy feature would be a 6-story high video wall electronically displaying 'retired' race cars.
  • The site was just southeast of Kansas Speedway, which opened in 2001, on a limestone bluff facing the two downtown Kansas Citys.
  • NASCAR committed to building the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte on March 6, 2006.
