Facts

  • The pulpit on the northern wall was originally placed in the southeastern corner, but was moved when the church was reconstructed in 1896.
  • Another and bigger organ was finished in 2002 by P. G. Andersen og Bruhn as a supplement to the old one.
  • The church was originally constructed as a basilica but only a few years after completion, proved to be too small.
  • To increase capacity, two wings were added increasing the capacity to 800 worshippers (1,000 if closely packed).
  • The murals inside were painted by Ole Søndergaard in 1928.
  • When the church was restored in 2001, an altar curtain was added which was woven by Hanne Vedel.
  • The organ is both the church's and Esbjerg's oldest being built in 1929 by Marcussen og søn.
  • The church is considered the oldest in the city of Esbjerg.
