  • This outstanding building is one of the first attempts at an American Jewish architecture, combining byzantine, moorish, and gothic elements.
  • The temple was commissioned in 1864 by the first Jewish congregation in North America west of the Allegheny Mountains.
  • It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1975.
  • Named for Isaac Mayer Wise, the congregation's rabbi from 1854 until 1900, and the most important figure in the development of Reform Judaism in the United States.
