Facts

  • It's a typical quadrangular tower of the southern part of The Kremlin Wall.
  • In the 15-16th centuries it used for powder storage.
  • During the fire in 1547, the tower was damaged by an explosion of the powder kept inside.
  • In the 17th century, the tower was overbuilt with a plane four-faceted marquee.
  • In 1770-1771, the tower was dismantled for The Grand Kremlin Palace construction, and restored in 1776-1783.
  • Initially, the tower was built in the 1480s.
  • In 1812, the tower was blown up by the French troops and later reconstructed under the supervision of Osip Beauvais.
