Facts

  • The Trinity pass-tower is the main tower at the west side of the Kremlin.
  • Originally, it was built in 1495-1499 by Aleviz Fryazin.
  • The tower's gate (The Troitskiye Gate) was used for passage to the Patriarch's estate and the Tsarinas' place in the Kremlin.
  • In 1658, the tower was given its present-day name after the Kremlin's Troitskiy hostelry.
  • It was overbuilt with a marquee decorated similarly to The Saviour Tower's one.
  • At the Kremlin's side the tower's height without the star is 65.65m.
  • It was never restored after the fire in 1812.
  • A clock and chimes were installed on the tower's top at the end of the 17th century.
