Facts

  • It opened with much fanfare in January 1926 with Broadway star Martha Lane as the headliner.
  • Tennessee Williams lived in a 6th floor suite at the La Concha for a year and finished writing "A Streetcar Named Desire" there in 1947.
  • The name "La Concha" was suggested by Louis T. Bragassa in a naming contest. He was awarded a $100 bond for the winning entry on July 11, 1924.
  • The top floor, which once offered a rooftop bar with a terrace, is now a spa with private suites.
