Facts

  • St. Joseph's steeple rises high above Albany's Arbor Hill neighborhood.
  • The last religious service was held here in 1993, after which the church was sold to a private owner.
  • Efforts are now underway to preserve the badly deteriorated building.
  • The spire was added in 1910 by the local firm of M. L. and H. G. Emery.
  • St. Joseph's is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Ten Broeck Historic District (also called the Arbor Hill Historic District - Ten Broeck Triangle).
  • It eventually became property of the City of Albany, which subsequently transfered ownership to the Historic Albany Foundation in 2003.
