  • The Cathedral's cornerstone was laid on July 2, 1848.
  • Construction was carried out by an immigrant work force, including many volunteers.
  • Though incomplete, the Cathedral was opened and dedicated in 1852.
  • The building underwent major renovations in the early 2000's.
  • It was consecrated on November 16, 1902 - the fiftieth anniversary of its dedication.
  • Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
  • The design was modeled on the Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria (Cologne Cathedral) in Germany.
  • The north spire was completed in 1862, the south spire in 1888.
  • The building was completed between 1891 and 1892 with construction of the apse and adjoining sacristies.
