Facts

  • The building has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since June 11, 1979.
  • During the US prohibition period, confiscated liquor was poured down a drain located in the building’s central courtyard; however, court workers in turn built a secret drain, later found, to divert the poured down liquor for their own use.
  • The courthouse became the largest single-building in Portland after its completion.
