Facts

  • The construction of this church started on order of Count Antoon of Lalaing and Countess Elisabeth of Culemborg.
  • The square footprint of the tower changes at the level of the carillon to an octagonal shape.
  • On October 23, 1944 the tower was dynamited by the retreating German troops.
  • During the fifties the church was completely reconstructed under leadership of the architects L. Stynen and P. Beyer.
  • The stained-glass windows located at the high-altar represent the Seven Sacraments. They were designed by Anton Evertz, a 16th century stained-glass constructor from Culemborg.
  • The main building material is brick. The façade consists of an alternation of brick and sandstone, a common combination in this area.
