Facts

  • The church was designated a National Historic Site in 1983.
  • The design of the church was modeled after St. Mary's, Snettisham, Norfolk in England.
  • After the fire the church was repaired at a cost of $100,000 and was officially reopened on August 12th, 1912.
  • The original spire was 52 metres high but it was rebuilt after the 1911 fire at 60 metres high.
  • On July 3rd, 1911 a fire caused by lightning destroyed the spire and choir.
  • The original plans called for two towers but it was later redesigned with a single tower to reduce construction costs.
