Facts

  • The old NCNB Building was built by brothers John and Powell Gilmer as a car dealership and parking garage, billed "the most modern in the South.".
  • Eventually the garage and auto dealership moved out, and the First National Bank of Winston-Salem moved into the first floor.
  • North Carolina National Bank took over the space in 1960 after its merger with the First National Bank.
  • Demolished to make way for the Liberty Plaza.
  • In the mid-1920's, the Gilmer brothers converted all but the top three floors into offices.
