Facts

  • A large addition was added to the south side of the building in 1915.
  • The basement level, which extends north and west beneath Washington Square and Kalamazoo Avenue, was converted to an underground, heated parking structure with space for 33 automobiles.
  • This building has a "low-slope roof" with the height of the roof ranging from 66 feet tall to 71 feet tall. The height from the sidewalk to the top of the parapet wall is 74 feet tall.
  • The former Arbaugh Department Store completed a renovation in 2005 that included conversion to loft apartments, and ground-floor office space. It is one of the oldest, large buildings left in downtown Lansing.
  • In the winter of 2004 the glass facade that had been placed carefully over the brick building in 1974 was removed to reveal the historic facade.
  • The 2005 renovation included converting the ground-floor and mezzanine into 20,000 square feet of office space along with the 48 loft apartments on the upper levels.
