  • The church, which was built on the site of part of the old workhouse garden, cost £9,688 5s 1d to build and is Decorated Gothic in design and is the earliest Victorian Gothic church in Hampstead.
  • The church was consecrated on 30th March 1852 and the tall spire can be seen from miles around.
  • Sir George Gilbert Scott, who lived in nearby Church Row, designed the west gallery in 1860 (which was removed in the 1960s), whilst Ewan Christian created the vestry within the tower in 1881. Electric lighting was installed in 1896.
  • Christ Church was one of the best attended and wealthiest churches in London until World War II.
  • Former Prime Minister Clement Attlee was married in Christ Church in January 1922.
  • In the 1970s the church was re-ordered with many of its original fittings being stripped (bar the teak pews) and in 1999 a Norman font was installed.
