Facts

  • Plans were announced in mid-2003 to convert this building into the Hilton French Quarter Hotel. This proposal was scrapped in the aftermath of August 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
  • The 2003 proposal would have included the construction of an additional floor containing luxury hotel units.
  • In mid-2006, a proposal for this would convert it into 102 luxury condominium units.
  • The 2006 proposal calls for the addition of two floors and a penthouse. The proposal is opposed by the owners of the The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans who argue an increase in height will block views from their priciest rooms.
  • When originally constructed, this was to open as the Audubon Hotel, but the ownership decided during construction to build it as an office building instead.
