Facts

  • Located atop Childress Hill to the west of downtown, this served as Alabama's state capitol building between its completion and 1846 before moving to the newly constructed Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery.
  • After moving to Montgomery, this would become the Alabama Central Female College until destroyed by fire in 1923.
  • Today its ruins form the centerpiece of Tuscaloosa's Capitol Park.
