Facts

• Home of the National Football League's Detroit Lions from 1975-2002. The team began the 2002 season at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.
• The ground-breaking ceremony for the stadium's construction was held September 19, 1973.
• The stadium contains 80,638 seats and 102 private boxes, and is proclaimed as the world's largest enclosed stadium.
• The dome rises 151 feet above parking level, and 202 feet above field level.
• The stadium's most recognizable feature is its 10-acre, air-supported, fabric roof made of a translucent Teflon coated fiberglass.
• The stadium was demolished by explosives on December 4, 2017 after an earlier attempt on December 3rd was unsuccesful.
