Facts

  • At the time of its completion, this was the largest mill in the world.
  • The original wood columns and beams were replaced with steel in 1912.
  • The load-bearing limestone walls vary in thickness from 8.5 feet at the foundation to 2.5 feet at the top.
  • It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
  • As part of the East Bank Mills complex, this building will be renovated into 52 residences and ground floor commercial space. The height will increase to 116 feet with the new elevator overrun.
  • The developers have proposed to complete the renovation of this historic structure by August 2008.
