  • The Grant Building caught fire on 5 November 1973, and subsequently caused one of the largest blazes in Indianapolis history. This building and the adjacent Thomas Building to the west were completely gutted.
  • Other major buildings suffering serious damage in this fire included the Hotel Washington (now Symphony Centre), the Century Building, and the Kirk Furniture Building.
