Facts

  • Proposed by a Toronto developer, primarily as an observation tower with revolving restaurant and viewing platforms, on the present day site of The Lions.
  • Project was scrapped when it appeared likely the city approval process would be a lengthy one due to the public outcry over design and height issues.
  • Had the The Spire been built according to plans it would have been the tallest free-standing tower in Canada until CN Tower was completed in 1976.
