Built in the place of the very first television studios in Latin America, known as Palácio do Rádio, owned by the former TV Tupi broadcasting station.
There is a exclusive restaurant for corporation executives at the top of the concrete base of the tower, which is 90 meters tall.
In the late 1970s the original Tupi television studios, that existed since 1950 in that address, were demolished to give place to a more sophisticated broadcasting center which included the TV tower.
Nowadays SBT hires the studios out to Abril communication group, which keeps there the headquarters of the paid TV station ESPN Brasil.
As the Tupi television network went bankrupt in 1980, only the new studios complex could be inaugurated on time -- the TV tower was completed later by one of its successor broadcasting channels, SBT.
