Facts

  • Formerly Evansville's largest and most exclusive hotel, some of its guests have included Katharine Hepburn, Clark Gable, and Richard Nixon.
  • The 268-key Hotel McCurdy closed in 1969. It was reopened the following year as a care facility for senior citizens and the mentally disabled.
  • The senior residential center was relocated to the Walker Building in 2010 in preparation for a full renovation into upscale apartments.
  • The long-delayed renovation finally began in 2015. The Kunkel Group, Inc., reconfigured the building into 113 apartments, with ground floor restaurant and event space.
  • It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
