Facts

  • At its grand opening, all 300 rooms featured a private bath, making it the first hotel in the world to do so.
  • The hotel became so popular so quickly that it was expanded to 450 rooms by 1909.
  • Weaknesses in the hotel's design were corrected when Statler was requested to develop his second hotel in Cleveland, which today is the Statler Arms.
  • The hotel was built on the former site of St. John's Episcopal Church, built in 1846.
  • The former hotel's site is now occupied by Coca-Cola Field, home of Minor League Baseball's Buffalo Bisons of the Class AAA International League.
