  • At the time of its completion, this was the largest Catholic church in North Carolina.
  • Held cathedral rank within the Catholic church between 1910 and 1977.
  • Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
  • In July 1998, the church was named a Minor Basilica by Rome due to its historical and architectural significance.
  • The elaborate stained glass windows won four gold medals at a contest during the World Columbian Exposition of 1892.
  • This is the centerpiece of Belmont Abbey University.
