  • Served as the Mississippi state capitol building from 1840 until 1903 when it moved into the new Mississippi State Capitol.
  • In 1961 this reopened as the Mississippi State Historical Museum.
  • During its history, many important statesmen visited the Old Capitol including Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay and Jefferson Davis.
  • Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.
