  • Considered to be the oldest existing masonry building in Eastern Baltic, although there are signs that masonry buildings in Ikskile have been before this church.
  • The church was built in romanic style, but it was rebuilt several times until partly destroyed in the World War I, at the end of 1915.
  • Initially the church stood on 15 meters high dolostone cliff at Daugava but since the building of dam in 1970s the church stands on a small, artificial island.
  • Official conservation work began in 1976 and in 2003, a protective cover was constructed to help reduce the effects of weathering.
