Facts

  • In a lead editorial entitled, "Rethink Fed Building," The Kansas City Star strongly criticizes the architectural design as "a bland design which will be devoid of the character and statliness one would expect from the Fed."
  • In the same editorial, the president of the local chapter of the AIA called the design "well-detailed, but hardly noteworthy."
  • Another critic wrote that the design looks like an attempt to replicate the 20-story One Park Place which is located three blocks west and won many architectural design awards and honors when it was completed in 1964.
  • Federal Reserve 10th District President and CEO, Thomas M Hoenig, said the design, "was shaped more by the need for functionality and security than by an overt desire to make an architectural statement."
