Facts

  • The church was damaged by an IRA bomb in 1992.
  • The original church survived the Great Fire, but was demolished due to being unsafe in 1724 and the present church was built in its place.
  • In December 1795 one of Britain's most celebrated poets, John Keats, was baptised in St. Botolph Bishopsgate.
  • The first reference to a church on this site was in 1212, when it was known as Sci Botulfi exa Bissopeg, although a church had existed here for at least 200 years previous to this.
