Facts

  • This was the first project to be penned by the then-fledgling architectural practice of Make.
  • The tower's shape is that of a hyperboloid; a column 'twisted' into a spiral so that the base and top constitute the widest points whilst tapering towards the centre.
  • If built, Vortex would probably have been constructed on the edge of the City of London.
  • The roof features an array of wind turbines for the generation of electricity which are augmented by solar panels; cooling is achieved with the use of groundwater via boreholes.
