Facts

  • This building rests on the former site of the original Jefferson County Courthouse which was built in 1875, razed and rebuilt in 1888.
  • This is considered to be Birmingham's first high-rise building.
  • A pair of identical, pyramid shaped rooftops acted in framing a much taller clock tower, which for years was the most distinctive feature of Birmingham's emerging skyline.
  • In 1937, the courthouse was demolished, and the site remained as a parking lot until the development of One Concord Center in 2000.
  • Was replaced by the Jefferson County Courthouse as the main county courthouse.
