Facts

  • In the 1970s the church congregation considered moving from this building to the suburbs.
  • The pastor of the cathedral who commissioned its design and construction, Rev. John Kochurov, was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1994 as the first martyr of the Russian Revolution (he returned to Russia and was killed in 1917).
  • The walls of the church are stuccoed load-bearing brick.
  • The church was designated a Chicago Landmark on March 21, 1979.
