Facts

  • Due to its state of deterioration, the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation added this to its list of 11 Places of Peril for 2008.
  • A proposed conversion into 45 to 50 apartments, at a cost of between $12- and $14-million was announced in May 2008.
  • This was originally proposed as a 6-story, $200,000 office building in 1926, and was billed as 'Ensley's first skyscraper'.
  • Acquired by the City of Birmingham in 1983, this has remained vacant since 1979.
  • In April 2020 plans were announced to demolish the building and replace it with a 4 story building utilizing salvaged elements of the Ramsay-McCormack Building. This new building would be completed by 2022.
