Facts

  • The building's front entrance once featured a large tower similar to the Parliament of Canada. It was demolished in 1915 because the underlying clay could not support the tower's weight.
  • The museum will undergo a $94M renovation and addition, to begin in 2004 and to be completed in 2009. Plans include a new tower at the front entrance, to be constructed of lightweight steel and glass.
