Facts

  • This replaced the original Battle House Hotel which had been a Mobile institution from its completion in 1852 until it was burned to the ground in 1905.
  • On October 27, 1913, former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson would make his famous quote at the hotel stating that the U.S. would never again wage a war of aggression. Four years later, the U.S. would become involved in World War One.
  • Was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
  • Reopened its doors as a hotel at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007, for the first time sine 1974.
  • Vacant since October 1, 1974, the hotel is seeing a complete reconstruction and being brought back to its former glory as part of the development which is also constructing the RSA Battle House Tower.
  • The lobby features four faux-relief busts of Spain's Ferdinand V, France's Louis XIV, England's George III and America's first president, George Washington, to pay tribute to the four countries that have ruled over Mobile.
  • The Sanborn Fire Insurance Map indicates a main roof height (excluding penthouse construction) of 110' (34 m).
