Facts

  • Fire Insurance maps indicate a height of 120 feet to the main roof.
  • The building was originally completed as the 4-story, terra cotta-faced Ford Motor Company Sales and Service Building; 4 more stories were added to the structure in 1913.
  • When the Ford Motor Company vacated the building in 1919, Wayne County Savings Bank moved in and renamed it the Wayne County Savings Bank Boulevard Building.
  • Wayne County Savings Bank remained in the building until the 1960s when the building underwent an extensive reconstruction. The terra cotta facade was removed and replaced with one of aggregate. The State of Michigan became the owner around this time, and the State Labor Department moved in.
  • The State of Michigan moved the Labor Department out of this building in 2000, to the renovated Cadillac Place. The state sold the building to Lakeshore Engineering Services, Inc. in 2005. The building was purchased by local real-estate developers, The Platform, in early 2018.
