Facts

  • This building was the tallest in Heritage USA, a christian-themed park for families. The park was built by Jim Bakker in 1978 using funds donated to his PTL Club.
  • Construction started on the tower in 1985, but was halted in 1987 before the building was completely finished.
  • Allegations of fraud and corruption were raised and the IRS revoked the ministries tax exemption. The park was closed in 1989.
  • In February 2007, MorningStar Ministries announced that it would spend $50 million to renovate the tower as rental apartments.
  • York County, which considers the deteriorating tower a nuisance, declared MorningStar in default of the development agreement in 2010.
  • Today, the unfinished tower is in ruins with broken windows, missing railings, and a crumbling facade.
