The Vue on Main (formerly Gayoso Place) was selected in May 2003 by the Center City Commission to redevelop the block between Union and Gayoso Avenues on South Main Street, part of which has been vacant since a 1997 fire.
Originally a 21-level apartment building, it beat a competing 10-level office building proposed by Washington DC-based Akridge Real Estate Services.
Demolition of the existing buildings on the site began in late January 2004 and was complete by March 21, 2004.
The developers hired new architects in early 2004, expanding the tower to 28 floors and changing from steel to concrete-framed construction.
The Vue on Main was canceled by its developers in summer 2006.
The excavated site became known as the "Hole on Main."
After a new round of competing proposals, Barboro Flats was ultimately selected in 2007 as the winning proposal to develop the site.
