  • The crescent-shaped, 600,000 square foot structure was built at a total cost of $112 million and has 21 court rooms.
  • The late Charles Evans Whitaker was the only U.S. Supreme Court Justice ever from Kansas City, Missouri.
  • The Whitaker Courthouse is the northern anchor and last element of a government mall with a two-block long green space stretching south to Kansas City's art deco City Hall.
  • One security design is an separate tunnel from the jail area to each of the 12 court rooms so that prisoners theoretically have personal and visual contact with ONLY guards while being brought to make an appearance and/or testify.
  • The Frederick Hotel was demolished to allow construction of this building.
