Facts

  • Proposed in the late 1980's, this tower would have been the seventh-tallest building in the world at the time.
  • The plan called for a multilevel shopping mall around an atrium, connected to subway stations on both State and Dearborn Streets.
  • This site is currently occupied by Citadel Center.
  • The tower's cylindrical crown is surrounded with 4 flying buttresses, each decorated with circular panels.
  • Designed by Adrian D. Smith, FAIA, RIBA Design Partner at Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP.
