Facts

  • The original site for the Rock Hall was along the Cuyahoga River, adjacent to Tower City Center. Concerns over future expansion by both Tower City Center and the Hall of Fame itself contributed to the decision on this location.
  • At a point in the planning phase when a financing gap existed, a proposal was made for the Hall of Fame to be located in the then vacant The May Company Building.
  • From Level 5, visitors ascend the “Stairway to Heaven” to view the inductees enshrined in the actual Hall of Fame on Level 6.
  • A star-studded groundbreaking ceremony was held June 7, 1993. "Top the Rock" festivities on June 28, 1994 coincided with the last structural steel beam being set in place. A gala, grand opening celebration occurred Sept. 1, 1995.
  • The move to North Coast Harbor necessitated Pei trimming the tower's height, from its original 200 ft. design to 162 ft., due to proximity to Burke Lakefront Airport.
  • Visitors to the museum view exhibits, artifacts, and multimedia presentations tracing the roots of rock and roll, celebrating fifty years of its performers and the impact their music has had on popular culture worldwide.
