Facts

  • This complex of 593 public housing units was built at the entrance to the business district and was the first tower on the La Défense site.
  • Some elevations look like bands of alternative light and dark horizontal lines. These are the exterior access balconies that lead to the flats.
  • Ahead of its time, some of the elevations with exposed grid are composed of prefabricated visible-joint panels; the geometry ot these elements works a little like Mondrian painting.
  • Designed by Jean de Mailly, this building represents (with the Tour Aventis) the only structure actually built from the original La Défense master plan as conceived by the CNIT architects.
