  • Maringá Cathedral is the tallest church or religious building in the Western Hemisphere (not including the Chicago Temple Building which is mostly an office building).
  • Dom Jaime Luiz Coelho, the first bishop of Maringá, was inspired by the Russian spaceship Sputnik to design this futuristic church.
  • There is an observation deck 84 meters high in the church.
  • Construction of the building employed 2800 cubic meters of stones, 273 tonnes of iron, 2950 cubic meters of sand, 24500 bags of cement, and 3500 cubic meters of concrete.
  • Part of the church was built with marble from the Basilica of Saint Pedro and Bento.
  • In addition to the church, the structure holds a museum and a bone depository.
  • The church has a crypt for the burial of bishops.
