Facts

  • The Chicago Transit Authority is relocating here from the Merchandise Mart, its home for 50 years, where it had rented an entire floor.
  • In 2000 the developers of the nearby Skybridge proposed a residential tower designed by Helmut Jahn on this site called the 555 West Lake Apartments.
  • An environmentally friendly "green roof" is planned for the top of this building.
  • Site preparation began on April 25th 2003, with construction officially starting on May 6th with the drilling of caissons.
  • Plans allow for a link from this building to the CTA's adjoining Clinton Street Station on the elevated Green Line.
  • This building was constructed at the same time as 180 North Jefferson across the street to the west.
