  • The building was renamed in 1981 from the "State Highway Building" to the current name after Dewitt C. Greer who was the former state highway engineer and highway commssioner. Greer died 5 years later in 1986.
  • First planned in 1928, this was the first skyscraper in Texas that was planned to be a state office building.
  • The building occupies the site of one of the first Travis County jails which was built in 1876.
