Southpoint was a large skyscraper planned to boost the southern sector of Sydney's CBD. The tower sat on a 20m high podium and was situated near the corner of Castlereagh and Campbell streets (site of former DMR). Its design was reminiscent of 1930's New York, while the golden spire would have been seen for many miles around. The project was yet another victim of the 1990 economic crash, as well as overshadowing issues concerning Belmore Park. In 1996, developer Meriton purchased the entire site and erected three 30-storey apartment towers known as Regis Apartments.
