Facts

  • The Grand Destiny Hotel would have been the tallest building in Syracuse and the largest hotel in New York State outside of New York City.
  • Construction was halted soon after groundbreaking because of a dispute with the county over tax issues.
  • Originally conceived as a twin tower project, the design was consolidated with the Destiny USA Hotel, Tower II after concerns were raised about reminiscences of September 11.
  • An official groundbreaking took place October 24, 2002, attended by public officials including Governor George Pataki as well as several thousand spectators.
