Facts

  • The original proposal called for a 32-storey, 107m (351ft) tall residential building. This was reduced to 20 storeys following objections from local residents and the neighbouring Tate Modern gallery.
  • The 20-storey version was refused permission by the London Borough of Southwark, but permission was subsequently granted on appeal.
  • The tower would have been environmentally sustainable. The design would have featured automated shading devices with wooden louvres on the south and southwestern façades whilst air conditioning would have been passed over in favour of chilled soffits.
  • The tower would have sat on the site of a disused paper warehouse.
