Facts

  • The original 10-storey, vertical sign was replaced in the 1950s with a marquee. The marquee was torn down prior to the 2006 NFL Super Bowl.
  • The Downtown Detroit United Artists Theater sat 2,070 people.
  • By 1975, the theater was sold off and rarely used, and by 1984 the office building was shuttered.
  • In preparation for the 2006 NFL Super Bowl, graffiti was removed from all the windows of the building, and the lower levels received a coat of black paint to hide the graffiti work at the base of this building.
  • A proposal announced in 2017 would turn the building into 148 loft apartments and ground floor retail called Residences @ 150 Bagley. The theater auditorium would be demolished as part of the renovations.
