Facts

  • Direct descendant of Seattle's first church (1853).
  • At the Sanctuary's dedication in 1910, the costs were reported to have been $205,000, and the membership of the church was 1,700.
  • A demolition permit was issued by the City of Seattle on June 13, 2006, but the developer of Fifth and Columbia Tower saved it in favor of taking down only the church's annex.
  • Initially, the church's plans in 2003 involved demolishing the church and replacing it with a smaller church and 33-story office building, which was approved by the City in 2005.
